Alateen Information

What is an AMIAS?

An AMIAS is an Al-Anon Member Involved in Alateen Service – A responsible adult member of Al-Anon who attends Al-Anon meetings regularly and who shares their recovery experience gained through working the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of Al-Anon/Alateen. A recognized AMIAS has been trained and certified according to the NIAFG Alateen Safety and Behavioral Requirements in order to work with Alateens. An AMIAS may be an Alateen group sponsor, backup group sponsor, help at Conventions/Conferences with Alateen participation or help as needed in Alateen service. The AMIAS helps Alateen members to focus on the Alateen program.

Current AMIAS are required to attend training each year to maintain their AMIAS certification. Upcoming AMIAS Certification Training dates and locations can be found on the Events Page of the NIAFG Website, the AIMS Newsletter, or by contacting one of the Area Alateen Coordinators. If your District is interested in hosting an AMIAS training, please contact one of the Area Alateen Coordinators. Please see below for contact information.

Recertifying AMIAS

The NIAFG Alateen Safety and Behavioral Requirements require all currently certified AMIAS to attend an AMIAS Certification Training annually in order to maintain their AMIAS certification status. In addition to obtaining new information about Alateen service, the training provides a forum for current AMIAS/Group Sponsors to share their experiences with each other and the new members that are applying to become an AMIAS.
